Let's Stand Together

My purpose is all about enabling a fair world

I was born in Birmingham, England where I also live and work. I'm a huge advocate of the city where I attended school, college and university. I've had a feminist consciousness since toddlerhood and am an activist for human justice; in particular the causes of: gender equality, racial equality and poverty alleviation. After many years working in senior leadership level positions within a number of high profile brands across the United Kingdom, I set up my own purposeful business called Shoes by Shaherazad. The business (which is currently furloughed) has empowered women all over the world through the alleviation of poverty. I have the unshakeable belief that every human being in every part of the world deserves food, warmth, love, equality and fair economic certainty.

My debut book, Each Other: Why Women Must Empower Women is a non-fiction work which was written when I won the Winston Churchill Fellowship in 2018. As a Churchill Fellow, I travelled a number of countries including Germany, Iceland and Kuwait to explore empowerment opportunities. The book contains fresh new research as well as a practical toolkit for implementing equality principles.

I am now a Director at one of Europe's largest conservation brands.  I also continue to support a number of philanthropic projects in Pakistan, Kenya, Palestine, Peru, Yemen, Jordan and the UK.  I am a proud member of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, The Boycott Divestment & Sanctions Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, Stop the War UK, Stand Up to Racism and the Palestine Solidarity Movement.  Recognised with a number of awards in Footwear Design, Export, Women's Empowerment and Business Excellence, I am keen to support as many people as possible in the quest for gender and racial equality.

Solidarity Always,
